Pleasanton Unified School District

Pleasanton Unified School District

Did you know one of the most effective ways of serving kids and their families affected by poverty is through the schools they attend? PUSD alone is home to 1000 children living below the poverty line. Why?

Whether you’re tutoring or mentoring a child to keep them from falling behind, helping a parent learn English so they can interact with the community, or sharing your tech expertise, there is a place for you to make an impact

Check out some of our favorite feature programs within the district:

Kinship & Foster Care

The PUSD Kinship & Foster Care Program provides services for kinship families which include both foster parents as well as kinship families. Kinship families are adults which have taken in children which are not biologically their own (e.g., grandparents raising grandchildren, older siblings raising younger siblings, aunts, and uncles raising other family members’ children).

Blue Oaks Church supports the PUSD Kinship and Foster Care Program in providing peer tutors and mentors, financial contributions for field trips and excursions, snacks for support groups, and college prep and career readiness. These programs ensure children are mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared for whatever life throws their way.

The Mariachi Program provides free wrap-around services for families in need in our community. Children receive music training, tutoring, social services, access to computer labs, robotics programs, and so much more.

While children participate in their programs, parents and families receive simultaneous services such as social work support, parenting seminars, and more. All families receive free hot meals provided by Open Heart Kitchen.

Blue Oaks financially supports several projects within Mariachi including summer camps for children, robotics and coding supplies, and provides volunteers.
