This week at Blue Oaks Church we had our first baptisms. We’re so excited for those who were baptized and for our church as we were encouraged by the testimonies of those being baptized.
Baptism was so important to Jesus that the very first thing he did when he began his public ministry was to be baptized. He was baptized to mark a turning point in his life, to make a public expression of his commitment to God, and as a demonstration of humility.
Jesus was baptized as a picture of his ultimate mission: dying on a cross as a sinless substitute for us, being buried, and then rising from the dead eternally.
All of Jesus’ reasons for baptism should be our reasons, including a reenactment of his ultimate mission where baptism by immersion represents the act of dying, being buried, and coming up to a new life.
