Enemies of Spiritual Life

In Revelation 2 & 3 John gives words of encouragement to endure persecution from leaders of the Roman empire. He also challenges churches not to compromise to the culture and its immorality or become complacent. These are two great enemies of the spiritual life: compromise and complacency. We need to take John’s words to heart. Although we’re not suffering persecution like Christians in the first century, we can still fall victim to negative influences of our society.
