This Sunday we want to look at something that happened to David’s name in the New Testament because there’s a very significant connection between David and Jesus. Many times in the New Testament, Jesus is referred to as “Son of David.” There are probably two reasons for this title, reasons that have to do with Jesus’ identity and mission.
1. “Son of David” implies Hope.
David led Israel through a golden age. Jesus will return to triumph in a golden age that will not end.
2. “Son of David” also emphasizes Jesus’ humanity.
Jesus took on Himself the representation and salvation of the entire human race, sinful and fallen as it is. He opens up the availability of the Kingdom of God to all who would believe in Him.
