The Life-Giving Power of Encouragement

The Life-Giving Power of Encouragement

This message is about the life-giving power of encouragement, looking specifically at Barnabas in the book of Acts. We all have what might be called “balcony people.” These are people who stand in the balcony, cheering us on as we run the race of life. They believe in us. They’re realistic about our shortcomings, but they also have a vision for what God made us to be. They embody what Dallas Willard calls “The law of inversion.” They’ve learned that the greatest really are the servants of the Kingdom and that we must die to ourselves before we can truly live. We all need to have balcony people in our lives, and we all need to be a balcony person in the life of someone else.
