The name “God” is never mentioned in the Book of Esther, but he is at work in the relationship that develops between Esther and Mordecai.
Mordecai is Esther’s guardian who challenges her to step into the role God has intended for her. He identifies for Esther that the purpose for her whole existence is to liberate the Jewish people from the hand of Haman.
At first, Esther is reluctant, but Mordecai’s wisdom and insight convinces Esther to stop shrinking back, acknowledge her weakness, and find strength in God.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Are you surrounding yourself with people who sharpen your awareness of God’s work in your life? Are you working towards sharpening others?
